Leopoldo Luque, the personal physician of Diego Maradona, who died on Wednesday, has been officially charged. Various Argentine media report this. Hours after news of the charges came out, Luque reacted to the Argentine press with emotion at the allegations. “I’ve done everything I can to help him.”
In the investigation into possible negligence in Maradona’s death, Argentine police conducted a search of Luque’s home and office. The doctor was responsible for the health of the Argentinian football phenomenon in recent months.
Brain hemorrhage
Maradona, who often had health problems after his football career, was hit by a brain haemorrhage in early November. As a result, he was hospitalized in La Plata and operated on by Luque.
Maradona recovered at home in Tigre, but suffered a heart attack on Wednesday. One of the best players in football died at the age of 60.
Doctor Maradona: ‘I am not responsible for everything’
Luque has since responded to the charge. In emotional terms, he said that he had done everything to help Maradona. “They say it’s my fault that he was released from the hospital,” said Luque. “I am a doctor, not a police officer or judge. I am not responsible for everything.”
“That a patient with his history suddenly has a heart attack and dies, that is the most normal thing in the world, unfortunately. Unfortunately this was to be expected. It could have happened earlier.”
