Apple does not meet the requirements set by the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) in a decision on the App Store case. The company will therefore receive a first fine of 5 million euros.
The regulator had ordered Apple to give makers of dating apps in the Dutch App Store the option to use other payment systems. According to the regulator, the billion-dollar group does not meet the requirements on several points.
The most important, according to ACM, is the fact that Apple has not yet adjusted the conditions. As a result, providers of dating apps cannot yet use other payment systems. According to the regulator, the company also raises “thresholds”: app makers should choose between referring to payment options outside the app or offering an alternative payment system in the app. That’s not allowed.
The fine can increase even further if Apple remains in default, up to a maximum of 50 million euros. The company had a turnover of $ 280 billion last year, so Apple will not notice these fines.
Apple could not immediately respond to the fine decision.
