The Canadian actor who has become known as Ellen Page has announced on social media that he will now go through life as Elliot. The transgender actor, known for his films Juno, X-Men and Inception and from the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy, wants to be addressed as ‘he’ or ‘them’ from now on.
In 2014, at a conference for LGBTQ youth in Las Vegas, Page announced that she liked women. “I’m here today because I’m gay,” the actor said at the time, “and because maybe I can make a difference.”
Afraid of discrimination
On Twitter today, Page writes that he is very happy to be able to share this now. “I can hardly express how good it feels to finally love myself enough to show who I really am.”
At the same time, the actor says he is afraid of the consequences of his coming out, because he sees that many trans people are being discriminated against or that they are being violent.
The 33-year-old Page got married in 2018 to the Canadian dancer and choreographer Emma Portner.
