Actor Eric van der Donk has died at the age of 92, his family has announced. Van der Donk has been active on stage, on TV and in films and has received several awards during his career.
In 1978 he was awarded a Louis d’Or for his role as Jerolimo in a performance of The Spanish Brabander from Bredero. Eighteen years later, he won a Golden Calf for his acting performance in the film The longest journey, based on the kidnapping of Gerrit Jan Heijn. In 2010 he received a royal award.
Van der Donk started his career on stage, but became known to a wider audience when he went on to star in TV series. In the late eighties he was seen in the hospital series West Medical Center. Ten years later he played Splinter Bussink in Old money, about a bank manager who steps down but struggles to hand over the reins to his son.
He also appeared in skits by The core and in several movies, such as Max Havelaar, crumb and The crown. He played one of his last roles in 2012 in the TV series Line 32, about a bus crash in Amsterdam.
Van der Donk spent the last weeks of his life in a nursing home in Arnhem, according to de Volkskrant.
