Facebook and Instagram face technical issues again. Tens of thousands of reports have been received on the worldwide malfunction website Downdetector.
The two social networks announced on Twitter that they are aware of the problems. Facebook, which also owns Instagram, says it is doing everything it can to get everything back to normal as soon as possible. WhatsApp is also owned by Facebook, but the number of notifications about the messaging app remains limited for the time being.
On Monday evening, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were unavailable worldwide for hours due to a malfunction. Billions of people had no access to their social media and messaging services.
According to Facebook, the outage started with a configuration error. A system administrator accidentally gave a command that shut down the network connecting Facebook servers worldwide. This led to a domino effect, as a result of which those servers were no longer connected to the internet.
It’s not clear if the current issues are related to Monday’s outage.
