Rapper and activist Akwasi is thinking about his role at Omroep Zwart, after it was revealed that he had forced a radio host to delete a recorded interview.
“My reaction after the missed interview with the EO is unjustifiable”, he writes on Instagram. “I’m going to ask myself how this could have happened and what my role within Omroep ZWART will be. I will remain silent for the time being.”
Akwasi is one of the two initiators for the new broadcaster that strives for “a correct reflection of society at the public broadcaster, both before and behind the scenes”.
Kick
In an interview with the EO program This is the Day, At the end of December, Akwasi walked away angry when it came to the racism demonstration on Dam Square last June. There, the rapper made the statement that he would “personally kick the face” if he met one.
After some words back and forth, Akwasi wanted the interview to be deleted, the EO reported yesterday. “You’re going to take it off now, otherwise you’ll have a problem with me.” After the rapper walked away with the laptops and returned, presenter Hans van der Steeg agreed to delete the recorded conversation in order to get the laptops back, according to the EO. There was a backup on another laptop. The interview was broadcast yesterday.
Akwasi has apologized somewhere in recent days. The broadcaster invited him to finish the interview, but he did not want to take advantage of it.
