Audi is launching the rear-wheel drive variant (RWD) of its mid-engine sports car R8 in a more powerful performance version at the end of October. At the same time, the previous basic versions R8 V10 Quattro and R8 V10 RWD are no longer available. The new performance variant with rear-wheel drive has an output of 419 kW / 570 PS and 550 Newton meters of torque (combined fuel consumption: 13.0-12.9 l / 100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 298-294 g / km²). The prices for the Coupé start at 149,000 euros, for the Spyder the Ingolstadt-based company is calling at least 162,000 euros.

Now also with drift mode
Compared to the previously available RWD versions, the output of the 5.2-liter V10 engine has increased by 22 kW / 30 PS, but this has no effect on the sprint times: As before, it takes 3.7 or 3.8 Seconds (Spyder) until the 100 mark falls. At 329 and 327 km / h, however, the top speed has increased by 5 km / h in both cases. The drive is coupled to a 7-speed S-Tronic dual clutch transmission and a mechanical limited-slip differential, which is supposed to guarantee good traction even on wet roads. In sport mode, the anti-skid ESC should allow controlled drifts from now on.
New steering, different seats
For the first time, Audi is offering new features for the RWD versions, such as dynamic steering for a more direct driving experience. Also available are new bucket seats or sports seats with leather and Alcantara covers, as well as cup tires in the format 245/30 R20 and 305/30 R20. As an alternative to the 18-inch steel brakes in wave design, large ceramic stoppers can also be ordered for the new RWD-R8 19 inch. (Text: mh sp / x, tv | Images: manufacturer)
