
Jaap Flier in the 60s
Ballet dancer and choreographer Jaap Flier has passed away. His family has let it be known. Flier was known as one of the best Dutch ballet dancers ever. He was 88 years old.
Flier continued to perform well into old age. He danced in the performance in 2007 Ground by theater maker Boukje Schweigman. In 1968 the dancer was appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau for his merits.

In addition to being a ballet dancer and choreographer, Flier was also busy with new talent. With his then wife Willy de la Bije and Aart Verstegen, Carel Birnie and Benjamin Harkarvy, Flier founded the Nederlands Dans Theater in The Hague. In the 1970s he was also director of the Australian Dance Theater and the Sydney Dance Company.
Flier died in Bloemendaal. His funeral will be private, a family member said.
