There have been some changes in recent years when it comes to buying cats and dogs. Buying a kitten was sometimes luckier than wisdom in the past and when things went wrong, too bad. Relatively many ?? bread breeders ?? kept on breeding (focused on money) and that produces weaker young animals. It is still not completely pure, but as a consumer you do have more rights.
Professional
Whether you are a real professional in breeding kittens or you just have a litter every now and then, if you ask for money for your kitten you will be seen as a professional by law and you will be drawn on a par with any retailer. In other words, the duties associated with selling also apply to the breeder. This means that you are expected to be knowledgeable and are you a customer? protected by consumer law. Which actually means so much that you have to deliver a proper kitten.
Prove
The first six months I am actually more or less responsible for the kitten and you will often pay the costs if there is anything. It goes without saying that if a vet determines that the kitten has jumped off somewhere and has broken something, this cannot be recovered from you. But a disease (what could be taken from the nest) or another ?? hidden ?? lack is. This does not necessarily mean that you are considered a bad breeder, because you can still check and vaccinate so much ?? something can always happen or be imparted by the mother. But you can then be held responsible.
It is therefore important that you always keep some money aside in case it does come to the point that you have to call in a lawyer or that you have to compensate a client for the costs.
Lawsuit or consult
Of course you can bring it to court if you disagree, but there are already rulings where, in addition to the purchase value of the kitten, you are also convicted for the costs of the vet and cremation. These costs can then add up considerably, regardless of the negative energy.
It is better to keep talking, to assist the buyer in what is going on (after all, it is also a living being that we are talking about and to which people will become attached) and see if you can work it out together. If necessary, offers a contribution towards the costs. Shooting on the defensive is usually counterproductive for the opposition.
Copper
But where the seller has obligations, the buyer naturally also has them. After six months, the direct from the seller may have disappeared, but even then there is the fact that it is a healthy kitten that the buyer thinks and expects to have bought. However, it is true that as a buyer you bear the burden of proof to demonstrate that the seller would be liable for something that goes wrong after six months.
Incidentally, there are a few companies that have also included legal aid for this, but that does not apply to all companies. So check carefully.
Together
It is always better to work it out together and therefore to record it properly in a purchase contract. Then there can actually be little discussion and everyone knows where it stands. And while it may sound strange, because after all, we are talking about a living being, but once you have a disagreement, people are often not so reasonable anymore.
Several associations have draft purchase contracts that can be used.
Consumer law does not apply to professionals. Professionals know among themselves? if it is right ?? what they talk about.
Finally
You buy a kitten with emotion. You can get it vaccinated and take it with you at 13 weeks, but often you have seen it before, you have fallen in love with it, etc. and then it is difficult to use your ratio in the purchase agreement. But it is important to do this. If there is something serious about a kitten and the kitten cannot be saved, it is bad enough. If there are also many costs involved, it will be twice as hard. Buying a kitten on emotion is fine, but after you have also used your ratio.
