Cabaret duo Yentl and De Boer have won the Annie MG Schmidt Prize for the second time. The pair received the award for the best theater song for the song It has begun, which is a reaction to the classic It’s over, by Annie MG Schmidt and Harry Bannink.
“A song that is musically exceptionally beautiful, well composed and has a brilliant starting point,” said the jury. “It wanted to be an answer to a well-known song and it became a small work of art.”
Schmidt and Bannink made It’s over in the 60s for the musical Delicious lasts the longest. It is an ode to a broken marriage. It has begun is an answer to that, highlighting the side of the young mistress.
In 2015 the Annie MG Schmidt Prize was also won by Yentl and de Boer for their song I have known a man. Only Wende Snijders also won the prize twice.
The decoration consists of a bronze bust of Annie MG Schmidt and a cash prize of 3,500 euros. The prize is an initiative of the Amsterdam Kleinkunst Festival and Buma Cultuur.
