Preparing the cupcakes
Cupcake dough
To make cupcakes, you can buy ready-made dough at the supermarket or bakery specialist. But you can also easily make your own dough. For this you need: 250 g flour, 250 g sugar, 2 packets of vanilla sugar, 250 g butter and 4 eggs. Put the flour in a bowl, add the sugar and vanilla sugar. Cut the soft butter into cubes and stir into the dough. Now add the eggs one by one to the mixture while stirring constantly and you’re done. With this preparation you can make about 17 to 18 cupcakes. Bake for about thirty minutes in an oven at 180 ° C. Check if the cupcakes are done by poking them with a fork. If the fork comes out dry, the cupcakes are ready. For cupcakes that keep their shape nicely, use an oven dish with holes for about 12 cupcakes.
An extra
Do you want to make the cupcakes more original? Then pour a little dough into the tin, put a layer of jam or butter on top and another layer of dough on top. Both butter and jam are allowed to bake.
Decorating the cupcakes
Fondant or marzipan
You can decorate the cupcakes with different materials. You have marzipan in different colors. Marzipan has a light almond flavor and rolls out very easily. Fondant rolls out very easily and also comes in a dozen different colors. Fondant has a slightly sweeter taste. You can mix fondant and marzipan. Both fondant and marzipan are also available in white. You can color the white version yourself with edible coloring. If you want a color that is not in the range, you can mix different colors. For example, you get purple if you mix blue and red, orange if you mix yellow and red, etc. To attach the layer of fondant or marzipan to the cupcake, you can use chocolate spread or jam. For the Christmas cupcakes you can use jam of the season: orange or blueberry for example. You can make different layers of fondant or marzipan stick by slightly dampening the different layers with water. Not too much, otherwise you will get a mess. You can also decorate the cupcakes with icing. You can also color that with coloring fluid.
Finish
You can also finish the cupcakes with edible pearls, granules, figures, pieces of fruit, edible glitter or by writing something on them with special writing pens. You also need: a number of stitch shapes, a rolling pin, knives, forks, skewers, a garlic press, etc. and of course a good dose of creativity. To prevent your fondant and marzipan from sticking to the tools, you can sprinkle a little icing sugar on the fondant / marzipan.
