Christmas trees from pancake
Ingredients:
- Pancakes (bake yourself or ready to use)
- Apple
- Cheese
- Carrot slice
- Powdered sugar
Preparation method:
- Heat the pancakes. Put some cheese or some icing sugar on top and roll them up tight.
- Let them cool in the refrigerator so that they become nice and firm again.
- In the meantime, cut an apple in half and remove the core with a knife (adult!).
- For the sweet pancake, put a piece of aluminum foil around half the apple. Then you put a skewer in it. (First make a hole with the point and then insert the back.)
- When the pancakes have cooled, you can cut them. You need two pancakes per Christmas tree; one roll you cut slightly more than half, the other three quarters, so that you get four pieces of different length. Make a nice diagonal cut and you can thread them on the skewer from large to small.
- Sprinkle some icing sugar on the sweet pancake and put some grated cheese on the savory.
- An asterisk from a carrot slice as a peak in the cheese tree and something sweet, a grape or something similar in the sweet tree.
Looks nice such an upright tree. You could make a Christmas tree from ‘wraps’ in the same way; with cream cheese and salmon for example.
Delicious candles
Ingredients:
- Cheese
- Mandarin
- Cucumber
- Cocktail sticks
Preparation method:
The picture says enough, it is very easy to make such a healthy, burning candle, also for children.
- Hollow out a piece of cucumber and cut a few ends on it.
- Cut off a piece of cheese; if you remove the corners, it becomes nice and round.
- Prick a cocktail stick through the cucumber and cheese and finally prick a piece of mandarin on top as a flame.
- Done … enjoy it and it is healthy too. You can place the rest of the mandarin around it as decoration. (See photo above).
A Christmas tree salad
Ingredients:
- Iceberg lettuce
- Star tomatoes
- Amsterdam outings
- Carrot slices
- Cucumber
- Tube of mayonnaise
Preparation method:
- Cut and wash the iceberg lettuce, drain well and place it in a triangle on a beautifully colored plate.
- Wash a cucumber with peel, cut a piece off and cut it in half lengthwise.
- With mayonnaise you can make garlands or a border around the Christmas tree.
- Finally decorate with half tomatoes and onions.
- You can cut stars from the carrot slices by removing corners from the outer edge with a paring knife.
You can of course vary endlessly; for adults you could use olives as Christmas balls, crumbled feta as snow and olive oil and vinegar as a dressing.
Christmas angel made of puff pastry
Ingredients:
- puff pastry
- Bar of white chocolate
- Egg
Preparation method:
- Defrost a few slices of puff pastry, one slice per angel
- Preheat the oven (See puff pastry packaging)
- Cut or cut the slices in half and cut off two corners for the dress from one half and an oval from the other side; the wings (see photos)
- Roll some of the remaining pieces of puff pastry into a ball. Flatten it into a slice; the little face
- Remove the papers and put the dress on the wings and the face back on the dress. Directly on baking paper otherwise it will stick to the plate
- Now cover the angels with some egg white, so that they brown nicely. You can also put some sugar on it. (Be careful because it will brown faster)
- Bake in the oven for about twenty minutes
- In the meantime, you can put some white chocolate (not too much you need but little) in pieces in a cup and place the cup in a saucepan with hot water. Heat carefully and stir the chocolate regularly until it is liquid
- Remove the angels from the oven and let them cool down
- Put some melted chocolate in a plastic bag, cut a very small corner and you can start decorating the angels. To make the shape stand out you can make white lines around the wings, face and dress. You could also paint the wings or the dress completely white with chocolate.
- Sweet and delicious such an angel!
Christmas tree skewer
Ingredients:
- Gherkins
- Cheese
- Amsterdam outings
- Sandwich sausage
Preparation method:
You made such a funny Christmas tree from pickle. A cube of cheese as a stand, cut triangles from half pickles and prick from large to small on the stand. An Amsterdam outing as a peak and possibly a slice of luncheon meat to put on the Christmas tree. Nice to hear and you will automatically get into the Christmas mood when you see all those tasty trees.
Hot meal: a spinach Christmas piece
Ingredients:
- Spinach
- Potato slices
- Meatballs
- Boiled egg
Preparation method:
Healthy food, just like usual, but … the eye also likes something! You can make a beautiful Christmas piece on your plate from spinach, potato slices, a boiled egg and possibly small meatballs. The spinach lies at the bottom in a semicircle, that is the fir branches, possibly decorated with small Christmas (minced meat) balls. The potato slices become the candle, in a nice straight row from the spinach upwards. You can stack them or place them diagonally on top of each other. Half-boiled egg like flame, flat side on the plate. You take out the egg yolk and crumble around the ‘flame’, so the candle really seems to burn!
You can also use broccoli or beans instead of spinach, as an extra decoration you could use grated cheese and replace the potato slices with mashed potatoes. It will be ‘plate service’ or you have to use a very large flat dish. Anyway; enjoy your meal!
