Climbing rose
There are many types of climbing roses. You can enjoy the continuous flowers for a long time, some of them bloom from June to even the first frost. It can look very nice on a pergola. The climbing rose likes to be in the sun, but they are also suitable for shade. What can look very nice is to combine the climbing rose with another climbing plant, such as the clematis. The climbing rose is very suitable for a sunny position, but there are also varieties that do well in the shade. They are available in different colors.
Wisteria: Wisteria
The wisteria is characterized by its beautiful flowers that hang in long clusters. These trusses are 10 to 15 cm long. It is sensible to take this into account with the height of the pergola. The wisteria blooms in the spring to early summer, and sometimes again in late summer. Often they are blue flowers, but despite the name, there are also with white and violet-pink flowers. The wisteria is deciduous but hardy. He is not related to the golden rain, this is really a different kind. Many blue rains only start blooming after a few years. So if you quickly want a pergola with flowers, you should look for specimens that bloom after 1 year.
Fallopia: Bridal veil
If you have a large pergola and want to quickly fill it with climbing plants, consider the bridal veil. This plant grows very quickly, is very frost resistant and therefore also hardy. It is deciduous. The bridal veil has white-green flowers in the summer and fall. After flowering it produces white-pink fruits. The location of the bridal veil is sun and partial shade. It is a creeper so you do not have to fasten it every time, it will twist itself. It can go very quickly so keep an eye on it that it is growing in the right direction.
Clematis
Most people are familiar with a clematis. There are many types of clematis, and some are deciduous or evergreen. In an evergreen species, such as the Armandii, it only flowers in the spring. There are also those that bloom almost all summer and start as early as spring. These are not evergreen, but winter resistant. If you still want an evergreen and lots of flowers, you can also add a passion flower, for example, which is deciduous, but it blooms all summer.
Vitis: Grape
The grape is very suitable for a pergola. The location of a grape is of course in the sun. A big advantage is that you can eat grapes from it in the summer while you sit under it in your armchair. However, not all grapes are edible, so pay attention to this when purchasing. You will not be able to grow all of them to produce good fruits. It does take some care but it looks very nice.
