If you have everything at hand to start painting, it is still useful to read this article to avoid unnecessary mistakes that happen to many novice painters. Do not buy cheap tools, prepare well, use enough paint but not too much, paint evenly with a roller, prevent stains, paint towards the wet paint, keep the tools clean.
Don’t buy cheap paint supplies
The offers of cheap paint supplies are very tempting, but it produces significantly less results. If you maintain your tools well, you can last a long time with more expensive tools. Moreover, the result is much better and you will enjoy it for years.
Allow enough time for preparation
Novice painters often want to get the job done quickly. This means that they immediately start painting without making any preparations. However, if you want a good result and do not have to paint again after a few months, you must first do some preparatory work. First, clean the part to be painted completely and make sure that the area around it is clean. This not only prevents dust particles from ending up in the paint, but also prevents the paint from peeling. Remove the door hardware to avoid splashes and smudges. You can immediately do some maintenance on, for example, the lock of the door.
Paint in the direction of the wet paint
You should always paint towards the wet paint. If you don’t do this and start with the wet paint, you will end up with an extra thick layer that is streaky and smudged.
Use enough paint; not too little and not too much
The trick is to use enough paint. Do not dip the roller or brush too deep into the paint. Too much paint is sure to drip and splash. For the roller, use a paint tray to roll out the paint evenly. When using a brush, wipe off excess paint on the rim of the paint pot.
Paint evenly with the paint roller
Using the paint roller seems easy. But make no mistake, it costs you energy and strength so that you cannot roll out the paint as well at the end of the job. So rest well in advance and also take rest breaks. You should also realize that with an extension tube (stick) you can also apply less force to the roller.
Primer on new drywall
For a new plasterboard, you should always prime it. It absorbs paint. If you omit the primer, you will get a smudged result.
Insulator against stains
Use an insulating agent against stains. This will prevent you from seeing the stains when overpainting because they will show through.
Quickly remove masking tape from glass
If you leave masking tape on glass for too long, it becomes stubborn. Sticky stains will remain on the glass when removing it.
Cleaning your tools
You can of course throw away all your expensive items. But if you have achieved a good result with them, you prefer to keep them. If you do, make sure you clean the items properly.
