Grooming a dog takes a lot of time and money. Getting a fine because your dog is loose or because you don’t have poop bags with you is therefore not welcome at all. The enforcement teams in The Hague are strict, so it is important for you to know what is and what is not possible!
Dogs in the city
As in every city, there is a special dog policy in The Hague. This policy ensures that both dogs and people can live comfortably together in the city. In urban areas it is often difficult to train and walk a dog. A lot of traffic and busy streets are not really the best place for this.
That is why there is the “Dog Card”. This dog card contains everything you need to know as a dog owner in the city of The Hague. It is important that every dog owner adheres to these agreements, to prevent all dog owners from being shaved and the areas where dogs are welcome will continue to decrease.
Run free
In the city it is forbidden to let the dog run free. The animal must be on a leash at all times. In The Hague there are of course plenty of places to let the dog run free, such as Landgoed Marlot or Zuiderstrand. These places are called exhaust areas and run-out areas. Enforcement teams are very strict and check a lot. Especially in places where it is prohibited for dogs.
Dog poo
Nothing is more nasty than stepping into a fresh dog turd with your new shoes. It’s dirty, it stinks and it’s not very friendly with the dog owners if he doesn’t clean up this shit. This is the rule in The Hague. You are also obliged to clean up the dog’s excrement at the outlets and loose-run areas. A good thing of course, as we all keep the city clean.
Cleansers
For a number of years it has even been mandatory to always have sufficient cleaning supplies with you. In The Hague you can get free paper bags for this at the district offices. However, nowadays there are handy bag dispensers for sale that you can hang on the belt. You must therefore always be able to demonstrate that you have enough poop bags with you.
Dogs on the beach
Dogs are very welcome on the beach all year round. Outside the bathing season (May 15 to October 1), the entire beach is accessible for dogs to run free. In The Hague you can walk on the beach from Monster to Wassenaar!
During the bathing season, there are some rules associated with walking the dog on the beach. During the bathing season, dogs are welcome all day on parts of the Zuiderstrand and the entire Noorderstrand. Dogs are only allowed on the other parts of the beach between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
