Baludó, the Dutch entry for the Oscars, has not made the shortlist in the International Film category. The film is not on the list published by the Academy Awards organization.
The film by director Eché Janga, featuring Everon Jackson Hooi, Tiara Richards and Felix de Rooy, was selected from thirteen Dutch applications.
The film premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival in September. There Baludó won a Golden Calf for best film. It is a family drama set in Curaçao and deals with themes such as farewell and mourning, realism and mysticism. All actors in the film have Antillean roots.
During the Netherlands Film Festival we spoke with director Eché Janga:
The Danish entry Another Round (original title: Druk), which was partly financed by the Dutch Film Fund and co-produced by the Amsterdam company Topkapi, did make it to the Oscars list.
The Academy will announce the nominations for the Oscars on March 15. The prestigious film awards will be presented on April 25.
