However, you don’t feel like spending a lot of money or standing in the kitchen all day. A tasty homemade dessert doesn’t have to cost a lot of work or money and there is something for everyone, from healthy fruit to sweet chocolate, from rice porridge to iced coffee.

Ice Coffee
You make the tastiest iced coffee yourself.

Start by brewing a cup of black coffee. Spoon the ice cream into a larger cup, about two scoops per cup. Pour the coffee over the ice cream scoops. Add a splash of coffee liqueur and drink through a straw.

Make a hole in the top of the packaging of the Danoontjes and insert an upside-down spoon. Put the Danoontjes in the freezer and after about six hours you have a delicious sweet yogurt ice cream.
Healthy desserts
People often think of sugar and a lot of calories when they say ‘dessert’. However, there are plenty of desserts that are also suitable for people who watch their weight.
Apple sauce
Warm, homemade applesauce is a lot better than the watery version from the jar. Applesauce is also not difficult to make and delicious after a meal.
What do you need?
- Apples, approx. 1 kg for four persons. Goudreinet and Jonagold are suitable apples for making apple sauce, because they are creamy and not too sweet.
- Cinnamon

Peel and dice the apples. Fill a pan with a layer of water and bring it to the boil, put the apples in the pan. Then let the apples simmer gently for about half an hour until the apples are broken and turned into a pulp. depending on how smooth you want the applesauce you can cook the apples longer or shorter. Don’t forget to stir the pan every now and then with a wooden spoon. When the purée has the desired texture and thickness, add some cinnamon. If you like very sweet applesauce you can afterwards. add some more sugar, but usually this is not even necessary.
Yogurt with fresh fruit
This might be one of the easiest desserts out there, but it’s so delicious.
What do you need?
- Yogurt
- Different types of fresh fruit, for example: strawberries, blueberries, melon, apple, banana, raspberries, peaches.
- Raisins
- Muesli
Peel the fruit and cut it into small pieces. Put the yogurt in bowls and add the fruit. Then add raisins and muesli to taste. Don’t forget to wash the raisins before use.
Baked pineapple with Greek yogurt and honey
The combination of the sweet, warm pineapple with the creamy taste of Greek yogurt is a pleasure for the palate.
What do you need?

Clean the pineapple and fry it lightly brown in a frying pan without butter for a few minutes. Divide the yogurt among bowls. Cut the pineapple into cubes and put it in the yogurt. Add a spoonful of honey to each dish and if necessary. a handful of walnuts.
Fresh fruit milkshake
Milkshakes don’t have to be unhealthy. You can make the most delicious healthy milkshakes yourself with yogurt and fresh fruit. You can choose which fruit you put in it. As an example I have chosen strawberries and blueberries.
What do you need?
- Strawberries
- blueberries
- Yogurt
Place the strawberries and blueberries in the freezer the day before, so that they freeze. Fill half of the blender with the frozen fruit and add some yogurt. Turn on the blender until all the fruit is smooth and has mixed with the yogurt. Taste in between if you have. add more yogurt. Pour into a tall glass and drink through a straw.
Very tasty desserts for special occasions
These desserts may take more time to prepare, but they are guaranteed to be enjoyed by everyone.
Warm rice porridge
After grandmother’s recipe.
What do you need?
- Broken white rice / dessert rice approx. 50 grams per person
- Milk, half a liter per 100 grams of rice
- Butter
- Brown sugar
Bring the rice to the boil, add if necessary. a pinch of salt. Add the rice to the milk and bring to the boil again. Lower the heat and let the rice simmer for about 15 minutes. Stir the pan regularly, because rice porridge burns quickly.
Divide the rice between bowls. Add a knob of butter and a spoonful of sugar and your Old Dutch dessert is ready.
Apple peaches crumble with custard
This dish needs to be put in the oven for a while and is recommended for winter days.
What do you need?
For 4 persons
- Apples and peaches, each about half a person
- 100 grams of flour
- 75 grams of butter
- 50 grams of sugar
- Crumbled nuts, choice of: hazelnuts, walnuts or pistachio nuts
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Peel the fruit and cut it into wedges. Grease the sides of an oven dish with butter and spread the fruit over the bottom of the dish. Knead the flour and butter together in a bowl and add the sugar and nuts. As soon as it is crumbly enough, divide the crumb mixture over the fruit in such a way that the fruit is completely hidden. The dish must then be put in the oven for about half an hour, until the shortcrust pastry has hardened.
Serve with custard. Possibly. you can replace the custard with custard or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Chocolate fondue
Chocolate fondue is an ideal dessert choice after a romantic dinner, but also fun with the whole family.
What do you need?
- Chocolate, about half a bar per person
- Fruit, eg: strawberries, bananas or grapes

Melt the chocolate au bain marie in a pan. Pour the chocolate into a fondue pan and keep the chocolate liquid by placing it on a tea light.
If you don’t have fondue forks to dip the fruit in the chocolate, you can also just use small forks.
As you can see, you don’t need many ingredients or experience in cooking to surprise your guests or yourself in a positive way. Desserts don’t have to be unhealthy and with a little imagination you can prepare a fantastic dessert with little means. Enjoy your meal!
