Beautiful green plants on the windowsill in a tall decorative vase? A large pot full of fresh green plants in the living room? Who would not want that? But not everyone has “green fingers”. Or the plants are simply forgotten due to a busy schedule. Nevertheless, there are several indoor plants that can take a beating and will adorn the windowsill and living room for a long time. Even with a little bit of water!
Everyone knows of course Hedera aka one Ivy as an easy houseplant. Cacti always do very well with people who cannot get along with plants in the house. Some opt for an artificial plant as a last resort or no greenery on the windowsill at all. Yet there are quite nice trendy houseplants that require very little care. A small selection from the big green world …
Sansevieria Kirkii Friends
This plant is more commonly known as: student plant of the year He got this name because he can survive the worst conditions. Can’t withstand too much water, but drought is no problem for him.
The sansevieria has sturdy leaves and grows to a height of 20 to 30 centimeters. It can withstand the dry air from the central heating very well, which makes it very suitable for the windowsill. It also tolerates a lot of light and sun.
With a little water and some nutrition now and then you will enjoy this plant for a long time.
Sedum Burrito
An ideal plant for a south-facing windowsill because this succulent plant tolerates the hot summer sun very well. But if he gets his “feet” in the water he will die. So save water with this stonecrop! The stems with the sturdy leaves give a playful effect because they hang over the edge of the pot. Also looks very nice in a high bowl on the table.
Honey locust
A good old acquaintance is the Honey locust. A flowering plant with white, pink or red flowers. The Euphorbia is a houseplant with minimal care. Requires little water and occasionally some nutrition. Does well at temperatures of 15 to 30 degrees Celsius. If it doesn’t like drafts, it can drop its leaves. In summer it can even stand outside in good weather. A nice eye-catcher on the terrace! Beware of the milk the plant contains, it is poisonous.
Epipremnum
A very easy houseplant is one epipremnum also known as Scindapsus. This plant feels at home in both a light and a dark place in the living room. Needs very little water and almost no fertilization. If the plant does get a serious shortage of water and therefore starts to droop, just water it and it brightens up completely. The epipremnum is also available as a hanging plant and is just as easy to maintain.
