The prestigious magazine The New Yorker has fired top journalist Jeffrey Toobin. He was initially suspended after allegedly masturbating during a video call with colleagues.
Toobin, who has written for the magazine for 27 years, is said to have had a video call with a sex worker at the same time and assumed that his colleagues could not see him.
The CEO of Conde Nast, the company behind The New Yorker, writes in a statement that the investigation into 60-year-old Toobin has been completed and that he values a work environment where everyone feels respected and where employees adhere to “our standards of behavior” .
Toobin, who has several books to his name, also appears regularly at CNN as a legal analyst. These activities have been suspended for the time being.
Toobin writes on Twitter that he will miss his colleagues at The New Yorker and that he will continue to follow the magazine.
