Insulate the house
Today, new houses are well insulated, but if you live in an older home, there is a chance that your home is poorly insulated. In that case, take measures to ensure that the house is better insulated. Examples of insulation options are floor insulation, ceiling insulation, wall insulation, pipe insulation, and so on. If necessary, contact a specialized company to assess where the insulation leaves the most to be desired.
Avoid drafts
There is little more unpleasant than feeling a draft in your house. It ensures that the perceived temperature is lower than the actual temperature. Prevent drafts by closing seams and cracks with, for example, a draft strip or fabric roll. A candle can be used to find the origin of the draft. The flame of the candle will flicker when it is kept in a draft. Incidentally, you must always ensure that the house is still sufficiently ventilated.
Loss of heat at the front door
When the front door is opened and closed often, a lot of heat is lost. Leaving the letterbox open for an unnecessarily long time is also disadvantageous for heat retention. Solutions can be, for example, to build a porch (if you have enough space) or the installation of a letterbox flap or brush.
Windows and panes
More and more houses are fitted with double glazing, for example the energy-efficient HR ++ glass. Yet there are still many houses that are (partly) equipped with single glazing. Despite the high investment, it pays to replace single glazing with double glazing. If you think the investment is too high, you can possibly use additional windows. Although secondary windows do not have the efficiency of HR ++ glass, the insulating effect is already much better than single glass alone. Hanging sturdy thick curtains in front of windows also have an insulating effect.
Keep doors closed
Prevent heat loss by properly separating the various rooms and rooms by closing doors. A useful aid here can be the placing of closers. Also close stairwells well by means of a door or curtain.
Ventilate
Good ventilation is of course important for a healthy indoor climate. While it may sound strange, good ventilation is also important for saving energy. Outside air is drier and therefore heats up faster. If your house has mechanical ventilation, you can optimize the ventilation. With mechanical ventilation, make sure that parts and grids are kept clean so that the operation remains optimal.
