Italian Eurovision winner Damiano David has been tested negative for drugs. The EBU, which organized the Eurovision Song Contest, said this in a statement. The singer of the band Måneskin was tested yesterday to show that he had not sniffed a line of cocaine while waiting for the result of the score in the Eurovision final.
David previously denied that he had used drugs. Something else was suggested on social media, after images of him were circulated. In those images, another band member seems to warn David against a camera, while he himself makes a bending movement towards the table. David said there was broken glass under the table and he was clearing the shards.
After the incident, several people on social media called for Italy to be disqualified. The EBU regrets that this has happened. “The speculation has led to fake news. That overshadowed the atmosphere and outcome of the event and had an unfair effect on the band,” the statement read. “We would like to congratulate Måneskin again and wish you the best of luck.”
