The presentation of the most important French film awards, the Césars, was dominated by frustration about the lockdown last night. Big names from the French film world spoke out on stage against the months-long closure of the cultural sector.
Actress Corinne Masiero undressed on stage. She was there to present an award. It was written on her body: “No culture, no future”. Others took the stage to confront the government with the decision to keep cinemas closed, even though most other businesses have reopened.
Film producer Stephane Demoustier expressed his frustration during his victory speech for best screenplay for the film La Fille au bracelet. “My kids can go to the Zara, but not the cinema. It’s incomprehensible,” he said.
The 46th edition of the Césars was held in the Olympia concert hall in Paris. Due to corona, only nominees were allowed to sit in the hall. The film “Adieu les cons” by director Albert Dupontel received the César for best film.
