Singer Glennis Grace will also spend the next night at a police station in Amsterdam. So does her 15-year-old son and a third person. The three were arrested on Saturday on suspicion of, among other things, assaulting supermarket staff.
The police have not formally confirmed that it is Glennis Grace, but her lawyer Kerem Canatan did so yesterday. He told ANP news agency that the singer has pushed a supermarket employee, but that she does not recognize herself in the accusations that she has kicked and beaten.
Canatan said in a response to the NOS today that he and Grace’s management are confident that the police investigation will show that the singer has not committed any criminal offences. They will not make any announcements until the investigation is complete.
The ‘supermarket quarrel’ in which Glennis Grace is said to be involved, arose on Saturday evening in a Jumbo branch on Westerstraat in Amsterdam. The police say that an incident between a customer and a staff member preceded it, in which the customer allegedly mistreated and threatened the Jumbo employee.
The police cannot confirm the identity of the customer, but several media report that it concerns the son of Glennis Grace. He had lit an electronic cigarette in the store, her lawyer Canatan said earlier RTL Boulevard† He was then approached by the staff.
‘laughed at’
The boy is said to have returned home with injuries to his face and hands. He said he was mistreated by store employees, according to her lawyer at RTL Boulevard† That is why Glennis Grace wanted to get a story, but “she was laughed at, after which she would have pushed an employee”.
According to the lawyer, the singer tried to stop people from a fight that took place simultaneously or afterwards in the supermarket, but she herself did not use violence.
Hold Up Alarm
A spokesperson for the Amsterdam police says that “the customer of the first incident” did indeed return to the Jumbo later, along with a group of people. The police then received reports of vandalism in the supermarket. The staff pressed the robbery alarm in all hectic.
The group is also said to have attacked and mistreated several supermarket employees. “Injured supermarket employees were found,” said the spokesman.
What exactly happened in the Jumbo is now being investigated on the basis of statements from witnesses, victims and the three suspects. Camera images are also viewed.
