Gnocchi is an Italian pasta and is increasingly emerging in the Netherlands. This variety is for sale at various supermarkets. Gnocchi is a combination of dough and potato. Of course there are many variable dishes to be made with Gnocchi (as with any pasta). Below are two variants, one with minced meat and oven-baked tomato and a Gnocchi with tomato-basil sauce.
Gnocchi with minced meat and tomato
Ingredients for 4 people
- 500 grams of Gnocchi
- 250 grams of minced meat
- 1 can of diced tomatoes
- 1 can of tomato paste
- 1 onion
- 1 clove of garlic
- Cheddar cheese
- Basil
- Chili powder
- Tabasco
- Italian spice mix
- Olive oil
- Pepper and salt

- Hot air oven at 180 degrees
Preparation
- put water in a large pan and bring to the boil, add a little salt to the water, in the meantime you can do the following:
- chop the onion and fry it in a little olive oil in a frying pan
- Add the minced meat and sprinkle with salt and pepper
- Loosen the minced meat by pricking it loose with a fork and fry the minced meat until brown
- Add the tin of diced tomatoes and the puree
- Crush the garlic, chop it and then add it
- Stir everything together and let it stand for a while
- Add the chili powder, basil, Tabasco (2 dashes) and Italian spice mix
- The water has now come to a boil and cook the Gnocchi (3 to 5 minutes) until they float to the top.
- Drain the Gnocchi and return to the pan. Stir the tomato sauce through the Gnocchi and then pour into a greased baking dish
- Cover the pasta with Cheddar cheese (this can be sliced or as a sprinkle of cheese)
- Transfer the baking dish to a preheated oven and let it rest for 20 to 30 minutes
Gnocchi with tomato basil sauce
Ingredients for 4 people
- 500 grams of Gnocchi
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion
- Celery
- 2 carrots
- 1 can of peeled tomatoes
- Cream
- Basil
- Pepper and salt
- Parmesan cheese (chopped or in flakes)
Preparation
- Chop the onion and fry it in a little olive oil
- Cut the carrot into pieces and add it
- Cut the celery (1 or 2 stems) into pieces and add
- Let it rest for 5 minutes
- Add the tomato puree and chop and add the basil
- Finally add the cream so that it becomes a creamy sauce and let it rise for a while
- Boil the water and add the Gnocchi
- Cook the Gnocchi for about 3 to 5 minutes until they float to the surface
- Drain them and put them back in the pan
- Mix the sauce with the Gnocchi and put it on a plate
- Sprinkle the pasta with the Parmesan cheese and dress it with a few basil leaves
