Everyone knows it; just bought a new pair of pants and there is already a stubborn stain on it. However, some stains that seem stubborn, such as stains from, for example, olive oil, red wine, candle wax or nail polish can still be easily removed in some situations. Always be aware when removing stains from pants that different fabrics react in different ways to the remedies for removing stains. As a result, it is always wise to try the product on a less visible part of the pants, for example the inside of the hem or on the inside of a trouser pocket.
Remove stains in general
Of course it can always happen that some splashes of grease or some red wine end up on your pants. When removing all stains, the most important thing is to get there as soon as possible and remove the stain as soon as possible. By not doing anything about the stain for a while, it will sink deeper into the fabric and it will be more difficult to remove the stain.
Remove grease stains from pants
Dishwashing liquid to remove grease
Grease stains are among the most common stains and are also among the stains that a washing machine alone does not often get out. Fat stains can be caused by all kinds of products, such as splashes of fat that is used for cooking, or from frying fat or olive oil. Regardless of whether they are hard fats or liquid fats, the way to treat these stains is the same. As soon as a grease stain appears, take off the pants and rub some washing-up liquid on it. Use sufficient washing-up liquid, without diluting it. Leave the detergent on the stain and then put the pants in the dishwasher. Run a regular wash and then the stain has disappeared from the pants. The reason for this is that detergent is made to degrease properly.
Lemon juice and salt
Should it be the case that there is no detergent at hand, or there is no washing machine at hand, another means can be used. Lemon juice and salt is an ideal combination in this case. Spread the pants so that the stain is easily accessible. Spray lemon juice on this (note, use enough of this again!) And then sprinkle a mountain of salt on it. Lemon juice is in fact a natural degreaser, so it is no coincidence that many dishwashing products say they contain lemon juice. Sprinkling the salt on top of the lemon juice will pull the fat out of the clothes along with the lemon juice. This will prevent the lemon juice from making another stain on your pants. Watch out; do not leave this for days, but wash your pants equally well after an hour or two. This is not necessary with a washing machine, but can also be done manually. The point is that the lemon juice is rinsed from the clothes. Also look at the pile of salt on the stain in between; when this pile is completely moist, it can be removed for a while and placed on a new pile. The salt must still have sufficient capacity to absorb moisture.
Talcum powder
A third way to remove grease stains from pants is to use talcum powder. In fact, this is the easiest way, but it doesn’t always work well. The effectiveness of talcum powder depends a lot on how long the stain has been in the pants. To be effective, the talcum powder must be used as soon as possible after the stain has developed. To remove the stain, it is sufficient to sprinkle talcum powder on the stain, let it sit for a few hours and then wipe off the talcum powder. If the stain is still there, then again sprinkle talcum powder on it. In the meantime, you should see improvement in the stain, otherwise the talcum powder will not work well enough and one of the previously mentioned methods will have to be used.
How do I get red wine stains out of my pants?
Red wine stains are often seen as the most difficult to remove. It is certainly true that a red wine stain can often be very persistent, but even with a red wine stain it is important to get to it as soon as possible. By acting quickly, a red wine stain can be quickly removed from trousers. There are also different ways for red wine stains, depending on where you are and what remedies you have at your disposal. The first way is to immediately take the pants off, spread them out and sprinkle a little bit of salt on them. The salt removes moisture, so that it pulls the red wine out of the clothing, as it were. If the mountain becomes too moist, a new mountain of salt can be placed on it.
In a nightlife venue it is of course a bit more difficult to take off your pants and put salt on them. If a red wine stain develops while going out, it can be removed by throwing beer, white wine or vinegar over it. The disadvantage is of course that the pants will not look better for that moment, but this will make it easy to remove the stain in the washing machine. In this case, doing nothing is not an option, as the stain will then be absorbed and almost impossible to remove.
Candle wax stains
Another stubborn stain is candle wax. Candle wax cannot be treated in the same way as normal grease stains, because candle wax is a completely different substance. The best way to get candle wax out of pants is to use paper towels and an iron. Pay close attention to the location where the stain is located; for example, if this is on a trouser leg, something will have to be put in between the trouser leg before ironing, otherwise the stain may spread to the other side of the leg. For example, use a piece of thin cardboard between the pipes as safety. Place a double sheet of kitchen roll over the stain and place the hot iron on it. Make sure that no steam or moisture is used, it is purely about the heat of the iron. This will make the candle wax liquid again and the kitchen paper will then absorb it. A stain of white candle wax is easier than a stain of colored candle wax; the dyes that are in the candle wax are often the most difficult to remove.
Getting spilled nail polish out of your pants
Nail polish stains can also be very annoying. The best way to remove a nail polish stain is to use nail polish remover. Since nail polish remover can be an aggressive substance, it is important to try the nail polish remover on a piece of pants that is not visible, for example the hem or the inside of a trouser pocket. Please note that nail polish remover with acetone is a lot more aggressive than nail polish remover without acetone. To remove a stain quickly, nail polish remover with acetone is best, but it may be that stains arise from this nail polish remover. Such stains can no longer be removed. My advice is to use nail polish remover without acetone and test it first on an invisible part of the pants. If the stain has been removed, it is important to wash the nail polish remover immediately from the clothes. If it remains, a stain from the nail polish remover can still occur.
Stains of pollen from a lily
Lily pollen can also create a nasty and stubborn stain. Use adhesive tape for this; pat the pollen with the tape and use a new piece of tape each time. Make sure that the pollen is not rubbed into the pants, because then it will be more difficult to remove.
