With a few simple actions you can enjoy your favorite items of clothing for a long time. In this article, 10 tips to keep your clothes beautiful and comfortable for longer.
Wash
- Wash all garments inside out. This way they won’t get damaged in the washing machine and the inside will wear out first.
- Wash garments only when necessary. You can also freshen up garments by putting them briefly in the dryer (cold cycle) or hanging them outside at night. Sweaters and delicate garments should not be washed often.
- Always follow the washing instructions and sort the garments according to color.
Ironing
- Garments keep their shape longer if they are ironed regularly. This is especially true for cheaper t-shirts that quickly lose their shape.
- Iron garments inside out. This way, any drawings and decoration will remain beautiful for longer. You can also put a handkerchief over the drawing if you want to iron the outside.
- Always iron at the right temperature (better too cold than too warm).
To recover
- Repair damaged garments as soon as possible. This way they will not be further damaged. For example, you can make it a habit to have a needle and thread ready when folding the laundry or when ironing.
Storage
- Store items neatly in piles and hang up items of clothing such as pants or blouses. This way they wrinkle less quickly.
- Make sure you have enough space in the closet so that you don’t have to fumble around to get a piece of clothing. It is better to make several lower stacks than one high one.
- Store unused seasonal clothing clean and tidy. Wash them and check if they are damaged. Also put them in clean, closable crates (with possibly a bag of lavender against moths and for a fresh scent).
