Hyundai is expanding its commitment to hydrogen. The car manufacturer becomes a partner in H2 Mobility Deutschland GmbH, which builds and operates the majority of the 91 German hydrogen filling stations.
The other shareholders of the infrastructure company include Daimler, Linde and Shell. Hyundai has been an associated partner since 2017, and full membership is now intended to help expand the petrol station network and establish the brand’s fuel cell vehicles on the market in the long term. In addition, the company wants to participate in the development of the hydrogen economy beyond road traffic.
Hyundai Nexo one of two fuel cell cars
With the SUV model Nexo (hydrogen consumption combined: combined: 0.84 kg H2 / 100 km. CO2 emissions combined: 0 g / km²) Hyundai currently has the only series hydrogen car besides the Toyota Mirai II (hydrogen consumption combined: combined: 0.89-0.79 kg H2 / 100 km. CO2 emissions combined: 0 g / km²) on the German market.
Fuel cell buses and trucks are also part of the Korean portfolio. The fuel cell is seen as an alternative to the battery in electric vehicles; especially on long-haul routes or on trains. Hydrogen should also show its strengths in terms of range and weight in ships and aircraft. (Text: hh / sp-x, tv | Pictures: Manufacturer)
