The baker is a topic that speaks very much to the young child. This teaching idea, which is mainly intended for everyone who works with toddlers and preschoolers, is therefore about the theme of the bakery. For example, songs, picture books, circle games and craft activities will be treated, all with the theme of the bakery.
Lessugesties about the bakery theme
Visit to the bakery
Visit the bakery with the class. Sometimes it is possible to carry out an activity together with the baker.
It is also nice to buy a loaf of bread and eat it in class. You could have toddlers spread the bread yourself. Something they may not be doing at home yet.
Baking bread
Go bake bread in class yourself. Have the preschoolers help weigh and prepare the dough.
Bread dough recipe
Necessities:
- 1 pack of Koopmans Mix for Bread White
- 3 dl (300 ml) lukewarm water
- 25 g butter or margarine (at room temperature)
Extra needed:
- Mixer with dough hooks
- Batter bowl
Preparation method:
Oven temperature:
Electric oven: 220 ° C,
Convection oven: 200 ° C
Gas oven: setting 5-6
Put the mix and the butter in a mixing bowl and add the water. Knead the whole with a mixer with dough hooks into a smooth dough. In the bowl, covered with plastic, let the dough rise at room temperature for 10 minutes.
To bake cookies
Baking cookies requires a little more fine motor skills than baking sandwiches. If you want to cut out cookies with molds, this is still quite difficult. It is therefore also an activity that is more suitable for coloring and group 3 children.
Play shop
Set up a bakery in the doll’s corner. Let the kids sell sandwiches. Depending on the age, you could let the children pay with (fake) coins.
Sandpit / table
Place various cake pans, rolling pins and all other baking utensils in the sand table. Make sure the sand is moist enough. This way the children can also bake shortbread and shortbread cakes.
Grinding grain
Have the children grind grain first using a grain mill in an old fashioned way. It can then be used later in the preparation of the dough.
Crafting
- Let the children make clay or salt dough buns.
- Paint or cover cake boxes with the children.
- Let the children decorate a cupcake (made of paper).
- Have the children put a sandwich (made of paper).
- Make a baker’s hat with the children.
