One of McDonald’s most favorite burgers has to be the Bic Mac. The McDonald’s recipe is secret, of course, but with this recipe you can make your own Bic Mac at home that is very close to the “real” one.
The Big Mac
A Bic Mac is a triple hamburger with cheese, fresh lettuce, onions, pickles and a special Bic Mac sauce. All this on a 3-piece sesame bun. You pay 3.50 euros for a Bic Mac at McDonald’s. It may be that there is no McDonald’s near you or that you do not have the opportunity to go there. Then it is very possible to make this delicious hamburger yourself at home, and it is also fun to do.
The beef burger
You can make the beef burger yourself from ground beef, but the texture of the ground beef is less fine than that of McDonald’s burgers. A very good alternative are the cheeseburgers from Albert Heijn. These are pre-packed per 2, on a roll, with processed cheese. These taste practically the same as McDonald’s burgers, and also have a slightly “sweet” taste. These cheeseburgers can be put in the microwave and are very tasty. You can make 1 Big Mac from 2 of these cheesburgers. The price for these cheesburgers is 1.20 euros per 2.
The sesame buns
At the supermarket you can buy ready-made hamburger buns, but these are not “high” enough to make 3 layers. The bottom of the hamburger becomes so thin that it does not provide sufficient support for the hamburger. If you use one top of the 2 cheeseburgers and two bottoms, you have an ideal sandwich for your Bic Mac.
How to make the Bic Mac sauce
You need:
- half an onion, 3 pickles, 2 tablespoons mayonnaise, 1/2 tablespoon ketchup, 1 teaspoon mustard, 1 tablespoon picallily, 1/5 teaspoon sugar, a few drops of vinegar, a pinch of salt
Chop the half onion and the 3 gherkins very fine. Stir all ingredients together and taste regularly. If the sauce is too sweet, add a few drops of vinegar. If the sauce is too sour, add some sugar. The sugar needs some time to dissolve, so keep stirring until no more sugar granules are visible.
Further supplies
- a head of iceberg lettuce, an onion, a pickle
Cut the iceberg lettuce into strips, chop the onion and cut the pickle into thin slices.
Building the Bic Mac
Take the bottom of the bun and cover it with a layer of sauce, strips of iceberg lettuce, and some chopped onion. Place a burger on top, with the slice of processed cheese. Cover this too with sauce, lettuce and onion. Place the bottom of the bun of the other cheeseburger on top. You also cover this with sauce, lettuce and onion. The 2nd burger goes on this, and you put 3 thin slices of pickle on this burger. Then you put the top of the bun, with the sesame seeds on it.
Now the Bic Mac can be put in the microwave. You can keep the time indicated on the packaging of the cheeseburgers and extend it by about 1 minute. And then … Enjoy!
