The Mandemakers Group (DMG) has been hit by a cyber attack. As a result, the network and therefore a large part of the operational systems of the kitchen, sanitary and furniture company is blocked, the company reports.
The attack took place yesterday. DMG has engaged computer security company FOX IT to resolve the issues as quickly as possible. “Of course we have also reported to the police and made a report to APG (Personal Data Authority)”, DMG writes.
“As we are used to in our company, we immediately set to work with all our might to continue our services to customers as much as possible”, the website reads.
The attack may be a ransomware attack. Computer systems of companies are “held hostage” in this process. The data is locked and cyber criminals who have entered the system make ransom demands to release the files.
Last Monday, the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) warned about ransomware. According to the NCTV, such an attack could in the future ensure that some of the Dutch central government websites are down, or that important vital processes such as internet access or the banking system can no longer be controlled.
Worldwide, the damage caused by cyber attacks runs into billions, the organization thinks. The damage to Dutch companies is difficult to quantify. Moreover, attackers are difficult to detect, because they are often located abroad.
