Radio DJs Mattie and Wietze presented a radio program together this morning for the first time in five years. They are reunited for the national day of action of Giro 555.
The two started the broadcast this morning by saying they had a few things to say. “These are the first words together on the radio in five years”, Wietze started the broadcast at 8:00 am this morning. After which Mattie responded: “We are going to catch up for five years.” He inquired how Christmas 2018 had gone for his former colleague.
The two had spoken by telephone and via Zoom prior to the broadcast, but only met again in person for the first time this morning just before the broadcast.

Arguing about contract
Mattie Valk (QMusic) and Wietze de Jager (Radio 538) formed a duo on Qmusic for years. That came to an end in 2017 after a disagreement about a transfer of the duo to Sky Radio. That fell through after Mattie signed a new contract with Qmusic, which Wietze was not aware of.
Valk admitted shortly afterwards that he was wrong. “I have given several people the wrong impression and I have to learn from that,” Mattie said emotionally in the morning program at the time Mattie and Wietze.
Stretched
The DJs admitted this morning that they were tense about the reunion. “It still feels a bit like seeing your ex. Somewhere you still feel love and trust, but on the other hand you still think: what a buck cock”, said De Jager. Valk said the reunion felt “as if you spoke to each other three days ago”.
With a reference to Mattie’s current side-kick Marieke Elsinga, Wietze de Jager said that his former colleague had improved in that regard. “It’s nicer to watch,” Valk agreed.
The benefit radio campaign started at 6 am on ten radio stations: NPO Radio 2, NPO 3FM, NPO Radio 5, Qmusic, Radio 538, Radio 10, Radio Veronica, SLAM!, Sublime and 100% NL. DJs from the radio stations can be heard in varying combinations throughout the day. Tonight is the television program on NPO 1, RTL 4 and SBS Together in action for Ukraine to see.
This is how the action day started this morning:
Just before 10:00, Wietze and Mattie concluded their part of the action day. “Very cool that we were here today, really great”, Valk thought. De Jager agreed that, even though their reunion had a sad cause, the war in Ukraine. “Thanks for a nice two hours of radio.”
Footage from the studio showed the two hugging each other when the broadcast ended.
