The inauguration of US President Joe Biden was watched by an average of more than 2.9 million television viewers in the Netherlands yesterday. The NOS broadcast on NPO 1 had the largest audience with more than 2.6 million viewers, according to figures from Stichting Kijkonderzoek.
262,000 viewers followed the swearing-in via the American news channel CNN and several tens of thousands of people watched via RTL Z. The livestream on the NOS site and app was visited about 400,000 times.
Fewer press conference viewers
The press conference in which outgoing Prime Minister Rutte and outgoing Minister De Jonge announced the curfew yesterday afternoon, among other things, attracted considerably less audience on television than previous editions, which were broadcast at the beginning of the evening. The NOS broadcast on NPO 1 was watched by 2.4 million people yesterday. 410,000 interested people saw the press conference on RTL 4 and the SBS 6 broadcast attracted 167,000 viewers.
The livestream on NOS.nl and the NOS app was actually viewed better than at previous press conferences. The broadcast was clicked half a million times. The press conference has now also been viewed more than half a million times on YouTube. The video is at the top of the list of trending videos there. The press conference was also broadcast via the theme channel NPO Nieuws and NPO Radio 1.
The most viewed program of the day was the NOS Journaal at 8 p.m., with just over 2.7 million viewers.
