In the center of the West German city of Trier, a motorist has run into pedestrians. Local authorities say there are at least two dead and at least 15 injured, including some seriously injured. Among them would also be a child. It is still unclear whether it is a terror attack.
According to the police, the perpetrator was driving through the pedestrian zone at high speed. According to eyewitnesses, people flew through the air here and there.
A 51-year-old German has been arrested from the Trier-Saarburg region. He resisted his arrest. What his motive was is still unknown.
According to the police, the danger has passed. A large part of the pedestrian zone in the city has been closed.
