Narcissus will also make research and research reports accessible and public for everyone via the internet in 2020. Research no longer disappears in a dusty drawer, but can be shared with many. In this knowledge age, this is of course an excellent approach to disseminate the available knowledge. Daffodil also has a lot of scientific information about corona. Bravo Narcissus.
The Netherlands, knowledge country
The Netherlands, knowledge country, is a much-heard motto. At one time, however, this slogan was more of an empty shell for the average Dutch person. A political statement that was hardly noticed. Yet that is beginning to change. Through Narcis and the HBO Kennisbank, for example, it becomes visible how much knowledge is available in our country. Narcissus is again part of DANS, Data Archiving and Networked Services.
KNAW
The Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences in The Hague, KNAW, took over the Narcis research information network in early 2007. And that is quite something: all scientific institutions in our country participate in Narcis, including a number of research institutes, the KNAW and NWO, and the Koninklijke Bibliotheek. The goal of Narcis is to make all research results of the participating institutions digitally accessible for free. In this way, knowledge is made easily accessible to everyone, worldwide and easily, and it does not remain in the desk drawer. Students, journalists and employees in education, government and industry use NARCIS.
Repository
All affiliated institutions have created a repository, a digital treasure trove. In addition to bibliographic data, this can also be complete texts with research data or other types of files, such as audio and video. The repositories comply with international standards. Moreover, a high ranking is ensured with the search engines, so that robots like Google Scholar, Yahoo and Scirus can quickly find the research material. All repositories can be found and clicked on the Narcis site. Via Advanced Search you can search within a specific institution, by year or by author.
Dissertations and publications public
No longer do dissertations have to dust in attics on bookshelves. After all, more than 110,000 theses will be available online via Narcis by 2020. In addition, 2.5 million other publications (EBSCO Discovery Service). If you also want your publications to be public, please contact the repository manager of the institution where you work. You can notify us of any changes with a change form. Publications in Narcissus are also offered to Google Scholar (summary or full text). As a researcher, you can deposit it, look for datasets and publications or follow a training in Research Data Management.
HBO Knowledge Base
You can also contact the HBO Kennisbank via Narcis. You will find the graduation theses of HBO students at this Knowledge Base. In 2020, this will amount to 20,000 pieces of PhD research and the number will be further expanded. The theses mainly deal with subjects that are important to the business community and the social field.
