Streetlab
Streetlab is a Dutch television program of the KRO-NCRV of the four childhood friends Daan Boom, Jasper Demollin, Stijn van Vliet and Tim Senders. In the program, the friends try to find fun answers to questions through experiments. For example, the boys tried to work somewhere without actually working there, trained with a professional football club, the friends challenged each other by asking passersby separate things and they try to break through as a Boyband. In 2017 they actually released two songs, namely ‘Küss Mich Jetzt’ in 2015 and ‘Forget My Name’ in 2016. In addition, the boys managed to train with FC Utrecht and Schalke 04, among others (attempt at Atletico Madrid not passed), to get on the podium of the Cannes Film Festival and to be on the starting podium of a time trial in the Tour de France. In addition to their own television program, the boys also have a YouTube channel called ‘Streetlab’.
Gold Televizier Ring
Although the Streetlab program only appeared on television for the first time in 2014, it was already nominated for the Gouden Televizier Ring 2015 together with Expeditie Robinson and SynDROOM in 2015. The fiftieth Televizier Ring was awarded on October 15 and went to SynDROOM.
Streetlab Not To Believe
The television program ‘Streetlab Niet Te Geloven’, supervised by Tess Milne, is all about tall stories. For the program, the boys are divided into two teams: Tim and Jasper compete against Daan and Stijn (and vice versa). At the beginning of an episode, both teams mention a statement, such as ‘We beat the Olympic chess champion in a game of chess without tools’. The goal is to convince two celebrities who are guests that they are right in the most bizarre stories and adventures. They do this with the help of video clips and a tangible object, after which the jury has to decide each time whether the boys will succeed or not. Which team succeeds in convincing the jury of their capabilities at the end (regardless of whether they succeeded or not) gets a point.

The claim
Friends Stijn van Vliet and Daan Boom claimed: ‘We wrote a novel in 48 hours, which was published by a recognized publisher and which was rated in a national newspaper with three stars’, after which the jury, consisting of Jelka van Houten ( Dutch actress and singer) and Peter Heerschop (Dutch actor, comedian, writer and television program maker), initially surprised, but went along with the boys in their story.
Plan of action
A book by Tommy Wieringa, The Death of Murat Idrissi (2017), was written 19,000, however it says on the cover that it is a novel. As a result, Daan and Stijn wanted to write a novel of 20,000 words, in order to stick to the Tommy Wieringa formula. After approaching a few writers such as Daan Heerma van Voss (Heerma van Voss was also the coach of the boys during the writing of the book), Bart Chabot and Herman Brusselmans for some tips and tricks, Stijn decided he wanted a book write about folk singers. After this, Daan follows with the idea of having a folk singer as the main character who breaks through with a song that he doesn’t really want to break through at all. A video of the entire process can be found on YouTube.

Publishing the book
After several publishers refused to publish the novel, the boys found a publisher that did: Boekerij publishing house. They received help in this from a literary agent, Willem Bisseling. Then the boys had Özcan Akyol write a review of their novel and he gave it three stars. With this they had fulfilled their story, contrary to the expectations of the jury, Jasper, Daan and Tess.
