Oatmeal is made from oats and is known as a healthy start to the day. It’s tasty, easy and super healthy. For many it will seem like an old-fashioned food, but nothing could be further from the truth. Oatmeal is completely ‘in’ these days! Oatmeal Porridge
Oatmeal porridge is without a doubt the first dish that people think of when the word oatmeal. But how do you do? And how can you spice it up?
Ingredients
- 40 gr oatmeal
- 250 ml of milk
Preparation
Heat the milk in a pan. Add the oatmeal fiber. Stir well and wait until the oatmeal fibers have absorbed the milk. For a firm porridge you can add 50gr oatmeal instead of 40gr.
Variation tips: Add cinnamon powder, brown sugar, fruit or honey.
Oatmeal pancakes
These pancakes are extra filling, but at the same time super tasty!
Ingredients
- 100 gr oatmeal
- 200 ml of milk
- 1 egg
- pinch of salt or cinnamon
Preparation
Mix all ingredients and make a nice smooth dough. Fry the pancakes in the frying pan with a little butter.
Variation tips: Use 200 ml of almond milk or soy milk instead of regular milk. Decorate your pancakes with apple and cinnamon or red fruit.
Oatmeal smoothie
Oatmeal in a drinkable form!
Ingredients
- 250 g low-fat yogurt
- 2 tablespoons of oatmeal
- 100 gr fruit of your choice
Preparation
Combine the yogurt and oatmeal and mix until smooth. Then add the fruit.
Variation tips: Depending on the fruit, you can add a spoonful of honey.
Oatmeal cookies
Tasty and hearty cookies, where everyone licks their fingers!
Ingredients
- 75 gr oatmeal
- 50 ml of milk
- 50 ml of oil
- 75 gr sugar
- vanilla sugar
- 150 gr self-raising flour
- 2 eggs
- 50 gr ground hazelnuts
- butter
Preparation
Mix the oatmeal with the oil and milk. Then stir in the egg yolks, sugar, vanilla sugar and flour. Beat the egg whites until stiff and gently mix into the dough together with the ground almonds.
Then grease the baking pan and put piles of dough on it. Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for about 20 minutes and then let them cool on a cooling grid.
Variation tips: Each pile can be decorated with a hazelnut or a little jam.
Oatmeal pie
Why bake cookies when you can put a cake on the table?
Ingredients for the crumbled dough:
- 250gr self-raising flour
- 125gr butter
- 1 egg
- 100gr sugar
Ingredients for the cake:
- shortcrust pastry of 250gr
- 4 eggs
- 2 apples
- 250gr oatmeal
- 100gr sugar
- 100gr butter
Preparation of shortcrust pastry:
Place the butter, sugar and egg in a bowl. Knead quickly with cool hands. Add the sifted flour per part and knead into a well-cohesive dough. Then let the dough rest, covered, in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
Cake preparation:
Roll out the dough to a thickness of 4 mm and carefully place it in the greased cake tin with high edges. Pierce the bottom with a fork in a few places and level the sides.
Peel and core the apples, then slice them. Melt the butter with the sugar. Add the oatmeal and let it caramelise. In the meantime, stir well. Let it cool a bit and then add three egg yolks. Then carefully place the three beaten egg whites underneath. Divide this mixture evenly over the apple slices. Beat the fourth egg and use it to spread the edge of the dough.
Bake the pie in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 35 minutes. Remove from mold and leave to cool on a cooling grid.
Variation tips: Add cinnamon and raisins to the apples.
