Over the past two weeks, the main parties involved in the benefits affair were questioned in The Hague by the parliamentary interrogation committee on Childcare Allowance. From former directors of the Tax and Customs Administration to top civil servants at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. And from former State Secretaries of Finance to Prime Minister Rutte. Anyone who must have known anything about what went wrong with the childcare benefits had to show up.
The goal was to find out how it is possible that thousands of parents were wrongly identified as fraudsters. In podcast Day political reporter Roel Bolsius lists what we have learned in the past two weeks. Who is responsible for all the abuses and what did these interrogations benefit the duped parents?
