The woman who recited a poem at the inauguration of US President Biden is instantly a bestselling author. Her two books are number one and two on Amazon’s best-selling list.
22-year-old Amanda Gorman was invited to deliver at the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris yesterday. Her two collections of poetry will not be published until September, but a day after her performance they are already the most ordered books at the largest online store in the world.
Gorman became the United States’ first national youth poet at the age of 19. She is not an unknown name in the country, Oprah Winfrey is a lover of her work.
On the steps of the Capitol, she spoke about the future of the Americans, who, despite the division, must form a future together. The nomination received a lot of admiration, Hillary Clinton tweeted that she cannot wait for Gorman to make a bid for the presidency.

Dutch publishers are also interested in Gorman’s work, reports ANP news agency. The company that manages the Dutch translation rights says that several publishers have already registered.
“Translated poetry is generally not very easy to sell in the Netherlands,” a spokesperson told the news agency. “But Amanda Gorman does represent a new generation that stands out and certainly appeals to peers.
