There are purebred cats that are busy and hang in the curtains relatively quickly, but not the British Shorthair cat. It is a calm and balanced cat that is not easily fooled. A nice cat and if you don’t like the slender and slender oriental breeds then the British Shorthair may be an ideal candidate. What kind of cat is it, what should you pay attention to and where does this sturdy cat fit best?
British Shorthair, the breed
It is a sturdy, somewhat stocky cat that was bred in England around the end of the 19th century. The cat as it is today was in fact created by crossing the most beautiful British cats with Persian cats and especially on specific colors and drawings. Long-haired kittens also emerged from these litters and were initially sold as normal domestic cats. They can now also be bred to the British longhair cat.
The breed characteristics
Appearance
The British Shorthair is very similar in appearance to the Persian cat. This is more difficult to see with the Persian cat, because of that long coat. The British Shorthair is often seen as ?? chubby ?? described. The robust muscular build, the sturdy broad head with round eyes and the relatively short legs are also clear features of the press.
Due to the crossing, the British Shorthair has further developed chubby cheeks and because the nose is not as flat as the Persian, the cat looks very friendly (the Persian sometimes likes to have a gruff appearance). The cat also has a relatively short, sturdy tail and fairly large legs. After all, the British Shorthair has an average weight in terms of purebred cats. The cat varies from 4 to 8 kg.
The coat is short and thick and must be combed well on average once a week. In the past it was mainly the cat with the deep blue-gray coat that was bred, but soon cream, silver tabby and blue turtle were added. The cat is now bred in many more colors, with black, chocolate, lilac, white and shaded silver shades that are also very popular.

Character
The British Shorthair has a calm, balanced disposition and is somewhat introverted by nature. It is not a cat that will quickly come to the fore and will first look the cat out of the tree ?? before taking any action. However, if the cat wants attention, she will ask for it. Incidentally, it is not a loud meowing cat. It is a rather independent breed and that means that she will not always appreciate being picked up just like that. Still, the cat likes to be around people, but then she will be more likely to lie next to you or indicate that she wants to lie on your lap.
The breed is known for being sweet and gentle and it is not a cat that lashes out at anyone easily. This does not mean that it is not a cat that does not set its limits. They are also roguish cats, because they can completely immerse themselves in a toy and then just enjoy themselves with it for a long time. This scene can look very funny.
The cat gets along well with children and adults, so a family is no problem. A dog or other cat in the house is also no problem, preferably one that does not bounce all day long. Even if the cat is alone for a relatively long time, this is not a problem. Even the man or woman who lives alone, but wants to have a nice cat, can easily get along with the British Shorthair. The required territory is not very large, so even if you have a smaller housing as an owner, things go well together.
What to pay attention to when buying a cat?
First check with the breeder what kind of cats (adults and any other kittens) are walking around, how they are kept and whether it gives you a good feeling. Then everything still has to be recorded in a contract, after all you are working with a living being. You will receive this after the purchase, usually with a deposit when the kitten is reserved, together with the pedigree and the vaccination booklet.
The cat must also be fully vaccinated and dewormed. Chipping is also necessary, but sometimes it is agreed that the buyer of the cat does this himself. In terms of nutrition, it is useful that you get some kibble, especially if you want to switch to a different brand yourself. A gradual change in diet may prevent stool problems.
Why a British Shorthair?
For many people, this is the ideal cat in terms of appearance and character. A cat that is also for sale in all kinds of color variants. She is muscular and has a sweet face. Her character is a perfect match for her appearance, as she is a gentle cat that is easy to keep. Nevertheless, for this cat you also have to think carefully before you bring an animal into your home for about 12 to 16 years. After all, you cannot just replace an animal like a sofa or a dining area that you are tired of.
