Tapas are small snacks that are often served with drinks in the Netherlands. Lots of different tapas together can also make a full supper. Skewers (snacks on a stick) are a nice addition to the tapas, not least because this form of finger food is easy to eat. In addition, it immediately looks attractive. There are many different skewers to make, with all kinds of ingredients. The recipes are recommended, but let your imagination run free and adjust to your own taste.
Skewers with raw ham
Necessities
- Long tapas skewers
- Plate
Ingredients
- Raw ham of your choice (Serrano, Parma)
- Fresh basil
- Small mozzarella balls
- Sun dried tomatoes
- Pepper and salt
Preparation method
All skewers are quick and easy to make. Pick nice, large basil leaves from the branch. Rinse it briefly under the tap. Drain the mozzarella balls and sundried tomatoes. Fold or roll the slices of ham. Folding gives a somewhat messy effect, which suits this type of snack well. Now put all the ingredients alternately on the skewer. Ham – basil – sundried tomato – mozzarella – and so on. Season the skewers with some salt and pepper. Serve the skewers on a plate. The skewers can be kept in the refrigerator for several hours.
Tip
Arugula goes very well with this skewer. Serve the skewers on a bed of arugula or fold some arugula in the ham.

Spanish skewer
Necessities:
- Pan
- Stirrer
- Cutting board
- Knife
- Tapas skewers
- Oven dish
Ingredients
- 300 gr minced meat
- An egg
- Chorizo
- Cherry tomatoes
- 1 clove of garlic
- Pepper and salt
Preparation method
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Cut the garlic into small pieces or use a garlic press. Knead the garlic and egg into the minced meat. Add some pepper and salt to the minced meat and turn it into small meatballs. Fry these meatballs in a skillet until done. In the meantime, cut the chorizo into thin slices and wash the cherry tomatoes.
Now prick the three main ingredients on a tapas skewer. First prick a cherry tomato on the skewer, then a slice of chorizo and prick this whole in a meatball. Place the skewers upright in an oven dish. Place the dish with skewers in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 15 minutes. Serve immediately afterwards.
Tip
Fancy something spicier? Use chili powder to season the minced meat or cut a red pepper into pieces and add some of this to the minced meat mixture.
