American non-profit organization TED tries to share interesting knowledge and experiences with as many people as possible. Their aim is to spread ideas and to inspire and inform the world. Every year they reach millions of people with their videos, articles and meetings all over the world. Just about every topic to be thought of is discussed at TED, from sports to DNA research. Several well-known and influential individuals, including Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, have given presentations at TED meetings.

What is TED?
TED stands for: Technology, Entertainment, Design. This is a non-profit organization founded in 1984 and managed by The Sapling Foundation in New York since 2001. In 2017, there were more than 200,000 active members attending regular meetings. Chris Anderson is the chairman of TED, and was also one of the first attendees. This fast-growing company has more than 100 employees in 2018 and a large number of interesting presentations from various successful individuals such as Bill Gates and Jamie Oliver.
TED is based on an observation by Richard Saul Wurman, an American graphic designer and architect. This observation was that technology, entertainment and design were growing closer together. TED gives people the opportunity to spread their ideas through short presentations. For example, it explains why a good night’s sleep is important, how you can learn to play an instrument the fastest, what gaming does to you and much more.
There are several ways that TED disseminates all of this information. With more than 2,700 videos in more than 100 different languages in 2018, there is always something to watch. Mathematics, economics, DNA, sports and much more. Then there are the blogs, articles, interviews and forums that can be found for free on the TED site. Finally, there are several other events. These are the presentations, conferences and other TED meetings. In most cases you can buy tickets for this. Some are not public and can only be entered by invitation. Many of the presentations and events will be posted on the site as videos, so that they can still be followed by everyone. According to Chris Anderson, more than 15,000 events had been organized in 170 countries by 2016.

Every year, TED awards a prize to a person with the most creative and daring idea. In 2005, this TED Prize consisted of three $ 100,000 prizes and a desire to change the world.
