The journey to the Dark Tower The dark tower is described in seven books. Stephen King takes you on a journey with Roland the Sharpshooter. A journey in search of the Dark Tower. (Warning: This article contains spoilers)
The beginning
It is not without reason that the Dark Tower is Stephen King’s best work. Although it began with a poem King read in his younger years (Childe Roland to The Dark Tower Came by Robert Browning), he turned it into a true experience in a fantastic world on the other side of our world that he calls. It forms a passage through doors that Roland finds.
Middle World
Middle World is divided into baronies. Gillead is one of these baronies. The Middle World is ruled by Steven Deschain, a sharpshooter descended from King Arthur of Eld. A rebellion in Gillead ensues in which Marten, a magician, seduces Steven’s wife. He tries to force Roland (Steven’s son) into an early fight, where he hopes Roland will be killed. Steven knows how to stop his son from doing this. Steven has to bring his son to safety and, accompanied by apprentice snipers Cuthbert and Alain, lets him leave for Meijs.
In Meijs, Roland falls in love with Susan Delgado, but their love is doomed. Susan dies and Roland is left alone. Susan has been his one true love. Roland discovers a crystal ball belonging to Maerlyn’s rainbow. In that sphere he discovers the Dark Tower for the first time. Since the Dark Tower seems to be everything and is in danger of falling, Roland decides to search for the Dark Tower to save it. Roland and his friends decide (the ka-tet) to seek the Tower, but all his companions but him die.
The new ka-tet
Roland Deschain continues his search and is forced to get a new one ka-tet to shape. He shapes it ka-tet through doors he finds. These doors are related to other worlds, such as ours. Eddie Dean is the first to turn to him. Eddie is an addict who was taken to Middle World by Roland. As the story progresses, Eddie becomes a true sniper.
Susannah is also brought to Middle World and Jake emerges from the first book. The ka-tet is complete again. Now it is the task of the four to find the Dark Tower and save it from destruction.
The parallel universe
The story is told in seven parts. After the fourth part ?? Magic glass ?? there was silence for a moment. Years later, King decided to write the remaining parts at once and they came out one after the other. Throughout the story, we encounter old acquaintances of King, through which we know that the Dark Tower is central to all of King’s works. Thus it encounters ka-tet Randall Flagg, whom we know from “The ordeal”. Flagg has also been described before in “Eyes of the Dragon”.
This story takes place in the parallel universe of King. In this a boy gets a vision about Roland and the story forms with the Dark Tower. Characters from stories such as “Possessed City”, “It”, “Hearts in Atlantis” also return. and ?? Rosie ??. As these stories form with the Dark Tower, there are a lot of other novels that form with previous works by Stephen King and so everything is related to the Dark Tower.
My experience of the Dark Tower
At first, in my early years, I didn’t want to know about the Dark Tower. After reading everything from Stephen King that was available from him at the time, I started working on the Dark Tower and was lucky enough to be able to read all seven volumes in a row. To my surprise, it felt like some kind of drugs. I had more and more and couldn’t stop reading until I got to the end.
I think Stephen King with the Dark Tower (and the rest of his work) is the best writer. It should be clear that Stephen King is a genius.
