YouTube has removed the channel of rapper and conspiracy thinker Lange Frans. He is alleged to have repeatedly violated YouTube’s guidelines.
It has probably been removed, because YouTube has been taking tougher action against videos spreading conspiracy theories and inciting violence since last week. The company has the rule that if someone breaks the rules three times within a certain time, the channel goes offline.
According to the rapper, it has to do with the broadcast of Sunday with Lubach from last Sunday. Arjen Lubach showed in it that Lange Frans is a conspiracy thinker who contributes to the spread of conspiracy theories. He believes, among other things, that “the elite” and political leaders are members of a pedophile network and abuse children. For the videos on his channel, he has conversations with people who agree with him or have even more extreme ideas.
In his talk show on Sunday, Lubach argued against the algorithms used by social media companies. He spoke of a “myth trap”, which people quickly end up in if they only get their information from social media such as YouTube and Facebook.
Because of the algorithms behind this, people mainly get to see information and videos that match their interests. They are therefore one-sided and are also becoming increasingly extreme, because people just love sensation and because the social media earn their money by selling as many videos as possible, Lubach argued.
“Most of you are thinking now, I hope, what the f * ck is this?” Lubach said on his show. “I had that too, until I recently started clicking around a bit on YouTube. There are a lot of people there who believe that our reality is not correct.”
Lubach announced on Twitter today that he also does not find censorship the solution.
