15-year-old found dead in water barrier after fleeing attack

The family of a 15-year-old boy found dead in a reservoir after being chased by a group called “Anarchy” performed rituals to honor his spirit before his body was recovered.

On October 11, 2024, police were alerted about a body floating in the water at a dam in Mae Rim, Chiang Mai. Rescue teams worked for nearly half an hour to retrieve the body of the boy, identified as Mr. Ek, who had been reported missing since October 9.

Upon examination, Mr. Ek’s body was found unclothed with tattoos, including the word “WIN” across his chest. Initial autopsy findings revealed a large wound on his head, but it was unclear if it was due to water erosion or an attack. His phone was found in his jeans pocket.

Ms. Kanya, the victim’s aunt, recounted that on October 8, Mr. Ek was taken away by friends for a trip and did not return home. The next morning, friends came to inquire about him, mentioning they were attacked by about 30 members of the “Anarchy” group. Mr. Ek fled into an alley and fell into the dam while trying to escape.

Ms. Kanya expressed deep sorrow over her nephew’s death and called for justice, urging the police to quickly apprehend those responsible, emphasizing that such violence should not happen to any family. Similar incidents had previously occurred, including one on August 28, 2024, where a schoolboy jumped into the water to escape from rivals. Mr. Ek’s body has been sent for further examination at Nakornping Hospital.
