The head of the Huai Khwang police station (“ผกก.ห้วยขวาง”) has responded to accusations from Wasuwat Ruangratnaphong, the president of the Crime Victim Assistance Society, concerning corruption and mismanagement in dealing with illegal Chinese-operated entertainment venues.
Wasuwat filed a complaint demanding an inquiry into police misconduct, alleging that the Huai Khwang police chief had received benefits while allowing the illegal operations of the old Jin Ling nightclub, now known as KL Club, which has been running without a license from 7 PM to 4 AM.
On October 9, 2024, Huai Khwang police chief Pol. Col. Passapoch Eampinij clarified that since mid-June, there have been three notable criminal cases involving Chinese tourists who were victims of violence and extortion.
1. Assault case: Five individuals were prosecuted for assault, and two were charged for extortion, with the cases submitted to the prosecutor on August 19, 2024.
2. Sexual harassment case: A Chinese tourist was charged on October 2, 2024, for groping a woman, which led to a group assault by men in the club.
3. Two cases against the KL Club owner and operators for illegally operating a nightclub and selling alcohol beyond permitted hours. The owners requested a postponement to meet investigators on October 11, 2024, and the nightclub has been ordered closed for five years in line with legal procedures.
The police reiterated that all actions taken were in accordance with legal procedures and aimed at ensuring justice for all involved parties.
