A vegetable vendor from Nang Rong district, Buriram Province, has become a victim of an investment scam involving the company “Di Icon Group.” After paying 89 baht to learn an online sales course, she was lured into becoming a dealer, leading her to borrow over 220,000 baht to invest. She received only about 200 out of 500 promised products and has struggled to sell them, resulting in her having to exchange vegetables at the market for food. Many others, including civil servants and local vendors, are also reported to have been deceived by the same company and are filing complaints to the police.

On October 15, 2024, more victims, including a 49-year-old vendor known as Ms. Mawn, came forward, filing reports with local police. Ms. Mawn described her experience, highlighting how she initially invested after being convinced by a Facebook advertisement promising online sales training. She attended a seminar in Bangkok, featuring successful entrepreneurs and celebrities, which further persuaded her to part with her money. After paying for the products to sell, she found there was no market for them even after attempts to promote and discount, leading to significant financial loss and fear of future legal action from the company if complaints were made. Following rapid media reports of others being defrauded, she decided to report the company, hoping to recover some of her losses.

Ms. Mawn shared her disbelief at the lack of sales despite celebrity endorsements and expressed her desperation as some products approached expiration dates. She has been bartering goods for vegetables and implored the company to take responsibility for the situation, planning further complaints with consumer protection agencies.
