A tragic shooting occurred in Trang, Thailand, where a village headman’s assistant was killed after intervening in a domestic dispute. The incident transpired on October 17, 2024, at 1:48 AM.

The victim, named Mr. Sawang Sirichai, 61, was found shot five times with a 9mm handgun, including wounds to his stomach, waist, back, and arm. His son, Mr. Somrak Sirichai, 27, was also injured in the incident, sustaining three gunshot wounds but is now out of critical condition.

At the crime scene, authorities discovered 14 spent 9mm shell casings and two bullet heads. They also found a red-gray Mitsubishi pickup belonging to the village headman that had been shot at.

According to the village headman, Mr. Worakarn Kokkaew, the deceased had called him for help due to a dispute between a young couple. Upon arrival, he found the girlfriend of the alleged shooter injured but was able to calm the situation temporarily. However, the shooter, identified as Mr. Thirapong “Khaek Khaw” Phukhanayan, 37, became agitated when he discovered that photos of the incident were being taken and opened fire on the village staff and his girlfriend, leading to the fatalities and injuries.

Thirapong fled the scene after the shooting, and local authorities are currently in pursuit of him. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had attacked his girlfriend prior to the arrival of nearby villagers and village representatives who were attempting to defuse the situation.
