Police arrest one of five gang members robbing Chinese businessman of 12M baht

Police captured one of five gang members involved in a robbery targeting Chinese businessmen worth over 12 million baht at the airport while he was preparing to flee.

The incident occurred on October 19, when five armed robbers stormed an office in Huai Khwang, Bangkok, threatening two Chinese businessmen, Xie Chuanqi (30) and Xie Chuanfa (35), and stole 3.2 million baht. The suspects forced the victims into their cars, demanding additional money, which the victims couldn’t provide, leading them to digitally transfer approximately 270,000 USDT to the robbers, totaling over 12 million baht. After being released on October 20, the victims reported the crime, identifying one suspect as Liu Bu, a Chinese national.

Following the incident, police launched a manhunt for the suspects based on their escape routes while coordinating with immigration authorities to monitor borders and airports. On October 22, police located Liu Bu, 43, attempting to board a flight to Phnom Penh at Suvarnabhumi Airport and arrested him. Authorities searched his luggage, finding multiple plastic wristbands, cash, and passports, which will aid in further investigations.

Liu Bu has been handed over to the police for prosecution, with plans to expand the investigation to identify other accomplices of the robbery. Based on the victims’ testimonies, the police have secured an arrest warrant for Liu Bu on six charges, including robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.

Additionally, authorities have questioned the wife of one victim, as she may have influenced the victim to prepare cash prior to the robbery. Investigations continue to ascertain her involvement, while police are actively pursuing other suspects still at large.
