Police chase drug gang for nearly 10 km, damages 10 cars

Police in Thailand pursued a drug trafficking gang for nearly 10 kilometers, causing damages to over 10 civilian vehicles. Authorities managed to apprehend two suspects, while one remains at large.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 PM on October 22, 2024, in Saima, Bangkok, during a police operation investigating a drug dealer vehicle that attempted to evade capture by firing shots. Key police personnel, including Lieutenant Colonel Pongsak Thep-napan, were involved in the pursuit and investigation.

At the scene, police found a damaged Chevrolet car abandoned after colliding with a wall. Authorities managed to arrest the driver, known as Wuttisak Tancharoen, who was unable to escape after his vehicle was cornered.

The second suspect, nicknamed “Neng”, is described as short, bald, and armed with a .38 revolver, and is believed to have fled the scene with a woman, who is the wife of Wuttisak. The suspects hid about 100 meters away from their vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered a .38 caliber shell casing and a large quantity of methamphetamine, including 1 kilogram of ice and 160,000 pills. Further investigations revealed that Wuttisak had been hired by his brother, Apivath Tancharoen, to drive the vehicle because Apivath lacked a driver’s license.

The pursuit began when police noticed the suspicious vehicle, which fled as officers attempted a traffic stop, leading to a dramatic chase that involved reckless driving and shots fired at police. The suspects caused substantial damage to civilian cars during their escape.

Wuttisak and the woman were eventually cornered after a several-hour standoff, but Apivath is believed to have escaped earlier. Police are conducting further inquiries and are working to capture the remaining suspect.

Authorities plan to interrogate the detained suspects further and have requested forensic support to analyze the seized vehicle.
