In Chiang Mai, the situation of the “Ping River” has worsened, with the water level surpassing the critical point at the Nawarat Bridge and flooding homes on both sides of the river. Travelers are advised to avoid using “Chang Klan Road” as water levels continue to rise.
At 4:30 AM on September 25, reports indicated that the Ping River flooded areas around Buarawong Intersection on Chang Klan Road, as well as Montfort College and Reina School, especially at the lowest points near Buarawong Hotel Intersection, where the water reached almost 1 meter, severely hindering vehicle passage. Small vehicles are unable to travel, while larger vehicles can pass with caution. Motorcyclists are advised against using this route.
The flood has also submerged homes on both sides of the river, and although sandbags were deployed for protection, they could not withstand the strong currents. The flooding continues to affect Chang Klan Road, prompting officials to urge travelers to avoid the area due to the rising water levels.
Moreover, the area surrounding the Provincial Police Station 5 has experienced flooding, leading police officials to move their equipment to higher ground and allowing vehicles to park on the side of the road to avoid floods. As a result, both sides of the road are filled with parked cars as a precaution against flooding. Reports indicate that rainfall continues in areas north of Chiang Mai, including Mae Taeng, Chiang Dao, and Mae Rim, with rain recently ceasing early this morning around 6:30 AM.
As of now, the Office of Irrigation reported on September 25, at 6:00 AM, that the current water levels in the Ping River are as follows:
- At point P.67 in Mae Taeng, the level is 3.49 m (critical level: 3.80 m) and shows an “increasing” trend.
- At point P.1 at Nawarat Bridge, the level is 4.45 m (critical level: 3.70 m) and remains “steady.”
